Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Karen Frank

I have been teaching in the special ed. Department at Strawberry since 2005. Prior to that, I taught both general education and special education in several districts in the South Bay, primarily in the Palo Alto Unified School District. I have been teaching for over 30 years.

My husband and I moved from the South Bay to Santa Rosa in 2005 as our youngest child was beginning kindergarten. It’s hard to believe that this year our son, David, will be starting college and that our daughter, Kayla, will be entering her final year of college and preparing for graduate school. Both of my children worked as peer tutors in my classroom during the junior and senior years of high school. They, along with their friends, and some of our past students, have added greatly to our classroom community over the last decade while supporting their younger peers.

I primarily work with fourth and fifth grade special education students at Strawberry and collaborate closely with Diane Chira, who works with fifth and sixth and grade students. Together, with a team of incredibly talented and dedicated paraprofessionals, we hope to support students with special needs as they navigate the crucial years between early elementary school and middle school. Our biggest hope is that students leave us with academic and social confidence, and understanding of themselves as learners and the ability to communicate their needs to teachers, and a love of learning and excitement about moving forward with their education.
