Mrs. Sydney Lau

Hello Yulupa Families! My name is Sydney Lau. I was born in Sacramento where my family still resides. I love spending my time exploring new places, sightseeing, and finding delicious food with my husband and our dog, Lia. Both of my parents are retired teachers, so I spent a lot of time helping in their classrooms and watching them interact with kids. I learned at a young age that I also wanted to make a difference by teaching in public education.

I attended San Diego State University where I earned my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and my Master’s Degree in Teaching with a concentration in K-12 Language Arts. I started my teaching career in San Diego where I was lucky enough to teach various grade levels. I have experience teaching first and second grade, doing small group interventions with third, fourth, and fifth graders, and substitute teaching in TK through fifth-grade classrooms. My favorite part of teaching is building relationships with my students and their families. I enjoy learning about my students’ interests and watching them blossom into resilient and creative learners throughout the school year. I strive to continuously improve my teaching practice by reading professional books, attending trainings, collaborating with my colleagues, and always reflecting on my instruction. I am so excited to be teaching first grade this year in beautiful Bennett Valley! I look forward to getting to know you.
