Mrs. Dominee Cooney
My name is Dominée Cooney, I grew up in Morgan Hill; a small town between San José and Gilroy, Ca. When I was entering 9th grade my family relocated to Salinas, Ca. My father was born and raised in Santa Rosa and I spent many holidays and summers visiting grandparents and cousins here in beautiful Sonoma County and knew one day I would make this place my forever home.
My favorite people are my family, Keith (husband), Kaleb (son) and Marah (daughter) AND my pets: Daphne (golden retriever), Sunny (Maltese/poodle), Chance, Pumpkin and Lucky (cats) and Benny the bunny. Hobbies I enjoy are art (mostly drawing and watercolor painting), poetry, photography, paddle boarding, kayaking, camping, and many, many visits to the ocean.. My family and I try to camp as much as we possibly can and our favorite go-to spot is in Tomales Bay.
I have a BA in Child and Adolescent Development from San José State University and am currently an Intern with North Coast School of Education to earn my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. After graduating from SJSU, I stayed home with my children for 9 years. In those years I also taught as a long-term substitute at a preschool in Rohnert Park and as an Art Teacher at Scribbles and Giggles Creative Art Studio.
I became a Yulupa parent when my son started kindergarten in 2012 and instantly fell in love with this campus! The teachers and families are incredible. In 2015, my daughter began TK here in K1 and soon after I became the Crossing Guard and a One-to-One Student Support aide. After 3 years, I am ready to teach!
When I was 12 years old, I knew two things about my future, 1. I was going to be a Mom. 2. I was going to be a teacher. In college I knew right away that Preschool/TK was my passion; 3-5 year olds are just the best people on the planet! I believe that Preschool should be a place where children ‘play to learn’ while also being gently prepared for kindergarten. I enjoy exploratory learning, singing, dancing, playing, and MESSY ART!!! I am excited and honored to be a TK teacher here at Yulupa Elementary School!
