Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Kelli Garwah

Wow! I can’t believe I have been teaching since 2004! They say time flies when you’re having fun, so that must be where the time went! It is such a privilege to teach Second Grade at Yulupa.  My experience includes extensive work with Special Education and English Language Learners. I was born and raised here in Santa Rosa, and earned my B.A in Communication at San Diego State University and Multiple Subject Credential at Sonoma State University! I also learned Spanish by studying abroad at Instituto de Cultura y Lengua Costarricense (Costa Rican Culture and Language Institute).

I strongly believe that my job is to help prepare students to be part of a community by encouraging personal growth and social responsibility. Each child enters the classroom with a rich personal history, interests, challenges, talents, and needs. I wish to create a safe environment for academic and social growth and do so by creating a structured environment while using kindness and humor to help students meet high expectations. Being very clear and modeling expectations is essential for students. I believe strongly in collaboration and provide opportunities for students to work in groups, pairs, and individually. By the end of the school year I want your child to be a more confident and skilled reader, writer, mathematician, scientist, artist, and citizen.

To sum up, I’ll borrow these words from Maya Angelou: “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

I look forward to helping your child THRIVE this year!
