Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Peterson

I started out my teaching career right here at Strawberry Elementary as a student teacher in Mrs. Ward's fourth grade classroom.  I enjoyed my experience so much that I came back to work as a substitute teacher for Bennett Valley in grades K-6, and then joined the staff of Strawberry as a fifth grade teacher, where I have been ever since.

I had an unusual path to classroom teaching.  I have always loved the process of learning, but was originally drawn to the business world when it came time to choose a career.  After graduating from the University of Michigan, I moved to San Francisco, where I worked in administration and human resources for a major construction management firm and an international accounting firm.  After getting married in 2001, my husband and I moved to Santa Rosa, where I became the director and then the owner and head instructor of a horseback riding academy for children and teens.  Horses have been a lifelong passion of mine.  I greatly enjoyed teaching my students to ride safely, happily, and competitively, and also to care for the animals and develop the bond between horse and rider.  After ten very fulfilling, busy years, I realized that teaching was what I loved most about the job, and I returned to University of San Francisco to get my credential and MA in Teaching.

Outside of school, I like to spend time with my husband and my son, Nikolaj, born in 2015.  I also enjoy international travel, reading, gardening, and running.  I am a big supporter of music and art in our school and our community, and am a member of an a capella chamber choir.
