Learning is FUN and that is what I challenge my students to embrace every day in Room 12. I look forward to meeting you all and in the meantime here is a little bit you can know about me:
I grew up in a small town in the Santa Cruz Mountains and later moved with my family to Sebastopol, CA. I started my teaching career in 2008 and have been at Yulupa since 2016. I received a BA in Community Studies: Public Health from the University of California, Santa Cruz. My field study was completed in Cataño, Puerto Rico (which is where I met my husband!). Through the University of San Francisco, I received a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with Bilingual Authorization (English/Spanish), a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Spanish and a Masters of Arts in Teaching.
I believe in building a community of learners that support one another. Creating and maintaining a supportive and fun environment is incredibly important to me. I want your kids to WANT to come to school! To encourage a love for learning, I incorporate a lot of music into my curriculum. Music helps to engage students, aid with transitions and to strengthen skills needed for reading, writing and math. I aim to help students set clear expectations for themselves (both academically and socially) so that they may feel successful and independent. I look forward to creating a partnership with parents so that students experience consistent support throughout the school year.
When not teaching (though my husband says I never stop), I enjoy singing, playing the piano/guitar, bird watching, crossword puzzles, being an Auntie, going on adventures with Charlie Bear (my pup) and my husband and visiting family in Puerto Rico.
