Yulupa School is the primary school in the Bennett Valley Union School District. Its fundamental purpose is to educate young people with the highest possible quality instruction; to nurture students' intellectual, physical, and social growth, helping each to achieve to his/her highest potential. The district's schools are located in southeast Santa Rosa in quiet, residential neighborhoods combining the best of rural and suburban settings. Our district serves approximately 950 students from kindergarten to sixth grade on its two campuses. Yulupa serves our kindergarten through third grade students. Strawberry serves our fourth through sixth graders. Yulupa has an on-site, non-profit preschool. Both schools have onsite child-care run by the YMCA, and after school enrichment programs run by Santa Rosa City Parks and Recreation.
Yulupa endeavors to provide the perfect setting for young children to begin their elementary school experience. It is a school campus where the academic program, facilities, and all resources are focused on the primary age child, preschool through third grade. Teachers and staff are dedicated to supporting each child to be a successful learner. Parental involvement is a hallmark of our district.
Due to the fact that we are a single attendance area district, much collaboration exists district wide. We have joint School Site Council and the parent organizations are district wide. We have a long tradition of excellence in education. Our curriculum exceeds State academic learning standards at all grade levels. We offer a variety of programs designed to challenge and support the learning needs of each student.
All classes are of reduced sizes (20 or fewer students). All students enjoy a rigorous standards-based comprehensive academic program in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History/Social Studies, Physical Education, and the Visual and Performing Arts. Our core state adopted materials include the Open Court Language Arts Program, Great Source Writing, Saxon Math, Scott Foresman Science, Scott Foresman Social Studies, and Spark PE program. The Accelerated Reader Program is used to measure reading comprehension as well.
In addition to the core curriculum, our school utilizes the Response to Intervention (RtI) model, which allows us to provide targeted instruction to meet the individual needs of each student. Each grade level uses a student rotation during the school year to provide targeted instruction at various levels as well. In addition, Yulupa uses the DIBELS program and STAR Reading Assessment to assess student reading levels at all grades.
Parents partner with us to maintain the very best education possible for all students. Parents volunteer in the classrooms, chaperone field trips, serve on advisory committees, and provide leadership and membership on School Site Council, Alliance of Parents and Teachers, Bennett Valley Education Foundation, or on the Board of Trustees.
